Clinical Massage Therapy

Therapeutic Massage Therapy

Orthopedic massage

Clinical Orthopedic Massage Therapy – is an advanced, highly skilled therapy or treatment which goal is to decrease pain and improve physical mobility while focusing on both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. It is a more localized treatment than typical full body massage. Massage can benefit anyone with muscle pain, or looking to improve their range of movement.

Clinical Orthopedic Massage treatment is tailored to your needs and the session consists of a consultation, assessment and treatment. Be aware that if you have been suffering from ongoing pain or chronic tension, you may need more than one session.

Orthopedic massage works at a deep muscle level releasing, tight muscle, tendons, fascia and restoring movement hence improving joint mobility. We aren't talking about the spa type of massage, we are talking about the clinical application of massage. These involves having a huge knowledge and understanding of the human anatomy, your muscle function, the symptoms, causes, pathology and which muscle groups are causing the injury or pain.

An initial consultation of medical history  & orthopedic assessment is required, and is done in the first treatment only.

Orthopedic Massage therapy is effective for treating:

  • Frozen Shoulder
  • IT Band Syndrome
  • Post Exercise Soreness
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sciatic pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Tight Muscles
  • Muscle Pulls and Tears
  • Ankle Sprains
  • Recovery from a competition or event
  • Low Back Pain
  • Scar Tissue
  • Tendonitis
  • Tension and Migraine Headaches
  • TMJ

And many more…

Customized Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It's used for increasing circulation and relieve tight muscle and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Neuromuscular technique (NMT)

NMT is a specialized technique that involves the therapist applying pressure to sensitive points of muscle tension widely referred to as Myofascial Trigger Points (MTPs), that are deactivated, and released.

After a tender trigger point has been found within a muscle and pressure applied, we can use client feedback on pain level using a scale of 1-10 can help the therapist to identify progress of the positioning and its relation to pain level for the client, and giving the nervous system time to react and process this change in tension.

Neuromuscular Therapy is perfect for treating chronic muscle tension and pain as it gets to the root of the problem instead of simply soothing the affected area. It is used to treat, for example:

  • Chronic tension caused by old injuries
  • Pain and restriction caused by tightened muscles
  • Unexplained muscle and joint pain
  • Muscles prone to cramp and spasm as well as many more

Myofascial Release(MFR)

MFR involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain, bring circulation and restore motion.   Fascia is a tough tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and blood vessel in your body. Myofascial release is a stretching technique that releases tension and therefore pain deep in the body. It is also called "connective tissue massage".

Swedish Massage

A Swedish massage is a specific massage type that helps aid relaxation and improve many health conditions. Receiving a Swedish massage helps maintain physical, mental and emotional well-being. When massage is performed on the skin it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and promotes a sense of relaxation and calmness.

Common massage techniques used during a therapeutic massage include: Effleurage, Kneading, Frictions, Tapotement, and Vibrations.

Cupping therapy

Cupping is an effective massage technique to increases blood circulation, release tight muscles, fascia and reduce high tone. Handheld cups are placed on the surface of the skin in which a suction technique is used to lift the skin and tissues up. Cupping increases the blood flow and can remove waste products out of the body.  It can be used to move deep inflammation to the skin surface for release and drain excess fluid and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways.

Therapeutic Stretching

PNF stretching is the most effective passive stretch involving muscle contraction and relaxation that improve muscle length and prevent increased tension.  If this is done on a regular basis, gains can be made in flexibility and range of movement.

Who benefits from PNF?
PNF can be of benefit to individuals recovering from muscle damage as part of treatment. It can also help healthy individuals to increase flexibility and range of movement. This can be beneficial for sporting activities to improve the body’s ability to perform.

Therapeutic Chair Massage

It is a combination of deep tissue on the back and relaxing techniques in the upper extremities and head. Just from a single 30-minutes chair massage you can relief tension, increased blood circulation, strengthen immune system and get relaxed.
